Cancun is one of the most popular travel destinations in Mexico and one of the most famous in the world. Located in the state of Quintana Roo in the Mexico Caribbean, Cancun has semi-tropical weather and an average temperature of 81°F (27°C), although temperatures can rise above 95°F (35°C) in the summer with sunshine most of the year.

Bordering by the turquoise-blue Caribbean Sea on one side and the aqua-green Nichupte Lagoon on the other, Cancun offers the allure of expansive white sand beaches; the second largest coral reef in the world; and bountiful mangroves decorating the lagoon.

Near Cancun, not far off the Caribbean coast, is the charming island of Isla Mujeres, and near the town of Playa del Carmen, not far off shore, is the famous island of Cozumel, best known for its coral reef formations and colorful fish. These two popular islands are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving along the coral reef teeming with countless multicolored fish.

Around Cancun are rainforests and Caribbean beaches in the Riviera Maya, a region that includes the Xcaret and Xel-Ha eco parks; the sophisticated town of Playa del Carmen; the exquisite beaches of Tulum; and the archaeological site of Tulum’s ancient Mayan ruins, the only walled city of Mayan civilization built on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
